NOISY OFFERING: This month our Noisy offering goes to the continued support of our Paper Pantry. The pantry offers a place for those in need to receive toilet paper, paper towels, personal products like shampoo and deodorant, feminine hygiene products and tooth brushes and tooth paste. The money collected is used to purchase the items that are not donated by local business and our church. Please donate towards this ministry that serves up to 700 people in one month! Thank you! Minutes from Council meeting June 10, 2019 Minutes approved from May meeting. Discussion to make people aware to place mail in the box next to the office when they retrieve it from the mail box outside. The office needs to go through the mail in order to deliver it appropriately. Motion made by Sommer Poquette that as of July 31, 2019 Deb Manker will no longer be an authorized signer nor Treasurer to Cross of Christ and as of August 1, 2019 Sheri Popp will be an authorized signer and Treasurer of Cross of Christ. Kasi Meckstroth 2nd. Passed. We want to officially thank Deb Manker for her time and talents during her tenure. We look forward to seeing her activity with us continue! Thanks so much Deb! Council agreed to begin sending Paper Pantry thank yous to the News Review, Harbor Light and the Straightlander. Paper Pantry has no funding at this time and we are in dire need of financing. If you business or company would like to make a donation we would sure appreciate it! Stewardship: Sommer Poquette lead the meeting. Marty and Heather Engel are working on beautification projects for the church. More news to come. Shelby Laser has agreed to look at what we need architecturally to make our vision for the land take place. Management: Gary Engel is working with folks to replace windows and to nail down the most efficient window and cost. Community Life: Melissa Hansen and Gordy Engdahl gave a list of upcoming noisy offerings: June: Paper Pantry; August: Missions/Mission Trips. There will be a Congregational Update Meeting on Sunday, July 14th between services. We received a thank you from the North/West Lower Michigan Synod for our financial support this quarter Pastor Sherry McGuffin reported that we are still in search of two Sunday School teachers, we need help financially with the Paper Pantry. New members were received through Holy Baptism: Norah Morris and Ayvan Parsons. Welcome them and their families. MARK THE CALENDAR: When using the church building for meetings etc. please mark the day and time on the calendar, on the bulletin board by the women’s bathroom, so a reminder can be put in the announcements. It is important for the office to have this information. A GREEN TEAM is forming at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church to inspire and lead in Creation Care. Green Team Members will help implement Interfaith Power & Light activities, promoting wise energy use and other creation care activities through education and action. Let’s work together to honor and protect God’s wonderful gift of nature to us! SUMMER BOOK READ: This summer we will read two different books: Nadia Boltz Weber’s Shameless: A Sexual Revolution (Monday, June 24th) and Barbara Brown Taylor’s Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others. (Monday, July 29th) . The discussion group will be held at the church at 5PM each given date. FUN AND GAME DAY: Join the group for “Fun and Games” each Wednesday at 1:00PM. If you have a favorite game, bring it and teach the group how to play it. Questions, call Lois Ulrich at 231-330-8811. SHARING HOPE: Support group for anyone who has a loved one with suicidal tendencies. COUNCIL MINUTES FROM APRIL, 2019 Deb Manker, the treasurer, has formally resigned and is working towards a transition with Sheri Popp becoming our new treasurer. Thank you so much to Deb Manker for organizing and getting the books into a working order and for her dedication and faithfulness. We look forward to the work of Sheri Popp and will keep the transition in our prayers. Committee Reports: Pastor’s report is on file. Pastor Sherry McGuffin addressed the needs of a changing church and where we are in the changes in our world. Management: The front glass doors were fixed. Preston Feather gave a quote for windows and Gary Engel is looking for competitive prices. Zane Westbook is doing community service at the church…say hello to him…he is a hard worker! Tom Olsen and Gordy Engdahl will be spreading grass seed on the lot next to the church. . Sommer Poquette held a Stewardship committee meeting. Website picked up for April. Promotional videos on the website are getting a lot of attention. Sommer Poquette is looking into another photo session shoot for the church. Heather and Marty Engel are looking into carpet for the fellowship area and changing th3e look a little. Elderberries discussed donations using IRA. May is Leave a Legacy month. Community Life: Melissa Hansen reported that the June 26th event with Interfaith Power and Light is coming to an exciting point in the planning. The event is “answering the Call: An Interfaith Response to Climate Action” in Bay View at Voorhies Hall on Wednesday, June 26 7-9PM. Council approved the use of the church for an after meeting for the planning team. Worship and Music: One service Sundays will be May 26, June 30, July 28, August 25, September 1 and September 29. Time change from 10AM until 9:30AM; Visioning and Planning: Council determined that there were projects to be eliminated in the vision of the property. Shelby Laser, architect, said that she would love to be a part of the planning. New Items: Need 2 Sunday School teachers for next year. Cheryll Morford and Beverly Engel have done a fabulous job for years and we give thanks to God for their faithfulness to our children. Letters of thanks: Petoskey Club, Samaritas for $527.27; Kathy Phelps-Rusche for flowers and prayers and cards, Barb Lindensmith and Gale Powell for the kindness of the congregation towards their mother and father, Bob and Mick Hoyrup. Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Flint for $401.14 for water. Next meeting is June 10th. SENIOR HIGH MISSION PLANNING TEAM MEETING AFTER CHURCH ON JUNE 9TH!: The Senior High School Youth Group would like to take a mission trip this summer/fall.
