USHERS DUTIES
Please allow plenty of time (15-20 minutes) to prepare for the services. During the early service you are not only the usher, but often, also, the greeter and acolyte.
BEFORE THE SERVICE
1. Unlock the door by the front entrance.
2. Open the back door, the two glass doors and both wooden doors as you enter the church ( during nice weather).
3. Be sure form is available for prayer requests. This is located on the podium as you enter the sanctuary.
4. Turn lights on/off.
5. Leave a bulletin on the chair of the acolyte, pulpit and piano.
6. Hand out bulletins.
7. Make sure that the Friendship Pads have been disbursed.
8. On Communion Sundays make sure that the bread and wine is on the back shelf and there is someone to take them up front with the offering.
9. Light the candles when there is no acolyte.
DURING THE SERVICE
1. During the first hymn, take up prayer request to the pastor.
2. Count and record attendance in the notebook on the back shelf.
3. Make sure the windows are open if it is hot.
4. Take offering. There may be music during this time, there may just be an interlude. The congregation will stand and sing the Offertory, as you finish, bring the gifts forward (the offering and the wine and bread when there is communion).
5. After the Pastor receives the collection and the elements, the ushers return to their seats.
6. On Communion Sundays the ushers will lead the congregation to the altar for the meal.

- Ushers are responsible for placing and removing the moveable cushion and altar rail
- Please make sure there is room for our musician to commune with the first table.
- Please try to have them form one line so that during continuous communion they may find a place at the table, one at a time. The exception is during Sundays using intinction. Please see Pastor. The Ushers will be the last to the rail.
- Extinguish candles when there is no acolyte.
- Lock the door by the front entrance.
- Close and lock windows.
- Remove sheets from friendship pads and place in church secretary’s mailbox (bottom right most box).
- Turn off lights and make sure that hymnals and pews are in order.
